Canyoneering!

Canyoneering!

I woke up very early and off I went to the next destination!

The next destination is one of the biggest activity Cebu can offer!

Everybody tried it, everybody got addicted to it and everybody talks about it!

Canyoneering is done in the towns of Alegria and Badian.

Alegria is known to be the starting point and Badian is the finishing point.

People used to call it Badian Canyoneering. I arrived at Badian’s town hall.

The registration and payment starts there.

I paid 1000 php (2000 yen) it’s a bit expensive for one person

but I have to since it already includes; transportation fee to the starting point, entrance fee, tour guide’s fee, gear and food.

Since, the starting point is in Alegria.

I was transported by a motorcycle.

I have to admit it was a bit adventurous and dangerous but fun.

The road going there wasn’t as convenient as like in the city,

it was rocky and bumpy but I had to endure, I thought of it

as an adventure. I stopped over the gear area and met other people

who were also planning to do the same activity.

We were given the gears including life vests.

I was teamed up with people same age with me.

We got to know each other and decided to go together.

We were transported to the starting point.

I saw people who already are in the entrance. I can see from their faces;

excitement and nervousness. Who wouldn’t be nervous?

Then, our tour guide instructed us to follow him near to the real starting point.

I saw a waterfall, I was in dilemma if we were going to jump but I waited for the instructions before coming to conclusions.

The tour guide called our attention and oriented us.

He told us what possible obstacles, we’d encounter and what we should do. I was really dumbfounded with the information;

  1. The activity lasts 3 to 4 hours but would depend on our speed. If we’d walk and swim fast it’d be lesser than the estimated time but if we’d walk and swim slow then it’d be more than the estimated time.
  2. There are three major waterfalls we would jump all in different heights; 3 meters, 6 meters, 10, meters and 12 meters. The 12 meters is optional.
  3. We are expected to; jump when we need to, slide, swim, and simply walk.
  4. There are barbeques, hotdogs and hanging rice sold in the middle of the journey.
  5. The exit point will be at Kawasan Waterfall – Level III.

After the instructions the tour guide firmly uttered,

how we should follow him. We firmly nodded.

We started the activity with a prayer. We prayed for everyone’s safety

and to fill our hearts with courage.

The instruction was;

we should be following the tour guide. Since the first point was to jump,

all of us were really mesmerized, so the tour guide jumped first and

then we followed. The water was so fast that we should held

on the rocks around. Then when all of us jumped,

we then let-go and let the water current bring us to the end point.

The canyoneering was a series of waterfalls jumping, trekking,

sliding, swimming and just wait for the water to bring us to every end-point.

Then we reached the second point, in order to safely go down it is

a must for us to slide on the limestone-rocks. It was my first time

to allow myself to slide and let the water bring me down.

It was so scary yet really fun. When I slid, I shouted from the top of my

lungs and pinched my nose to prevent the water from going inside

my nostrils. It was really an experience, thinking that it’s still the second point.

Then we went to the optional jumping of 50 feet (15 meters)

just at the end of the second point.

You can either jump or continue to go on to the third point.

Since, most of us wanted to try, so all of us chose to jump the 50 feet (15 meters). In order to jump, we should climb from the side

and then from the top you can see the end point of the second point.

Two other people from our team  then decided to jump first.

They shouted from the top of their lungs and boom! Splashed!

Yes, they are still alive, happy, kicking, swimming towards the end.

Then, it was my turn! I looked from the top to the bottom

and it felt like the water was so calm, I wonder if that beautiful water

would hurt me bad.

Then, the tour guide encouraged me telling me,

how it is just nothing and I could do it!

So, I stepped closer to the edge and then watch the sky

and off I jumped pinching my nose, straightening my body

so that I won’t be hurt and then, boom! Splashed!

It was one of a kind!
